Directed by Curtis Hanson and based on the novel by James Ellroy, LA Confidential features an incredible ensemble cast, including Kevin Spacey, Russell Crowe, Guy Pearce, and Kim Basinger. The story follows three very different detectives who become entangled in a massive conspiracy involving murder, drugs, and institutional rot. The film was a critical darling, earning nine Academy Award nominations and winning two, including Best Supporting Actress for Basinger.
