Miklos Steinberg (1907–1989), a Hungarian-born painter and collagist who fled Budapest in 1944, remains a peripheral figure in mid-century European modernism. His 1962 mixed-media work Fur Alma —held in a private collection in Vienna—represents a critical shift in his use of tactile materials to evoke personal and collective trauma.
